1. (communism) (2460↑, 690↓)
Communism is the final stage of the political reform started witha revolution, according to Marx. First masses of workers will rebel in a industrialezed country; they will implant a socialist government in order to adapt the country for later changes. After private property is banished, and the people possess everything, thenthere will be no need for government, thus the state will be destroyed, to form a society with no social classes. It important to remember that Marx knew that the mentality of man needed to change in order of this to work. He believe in the concept of the "new man" who was humble and just. It is also important to remeber did not believe in a country alone with this structure, but he believed that the whole world adapt to this change. Given this, it is safe to say that no country has ever achieved communism, and anyone who has a sense of equality do agree with this utopia.

No, Russia was not communist, neither is Cuba.

2. (Communism) (2327↑, 786↓)
A nice idea (Everyone is equal, everything is shared) but one that falls to bits when greedy humans get in the way.

True communism has never been achieved on any significant scale in known history.

3. (Communism) (1250↑, 288↓)
Communism is a socioeconomic structure and political ideology that promotes the establishment of an egalitarian, classless, stateless society based on common ownership and control of the means of production and property in general.

"The theory of Communism may be summed up in one sentence: Abolish all private property." - Karl Marx

Something that, in theory, is a good idea. Communism is an [ideal] that believes that everyone should share everything, so that [poverty] wouldn't exist, and there wouldn't be a gap between richer and poorer classes. The problem is, communist governments become [corrupt], because people are greedy, so it doesn't work.

Person One: Why's that country so messed up? Person Two: They just got rid of communism, and are now trying to put their country back together.

5. (Communism) (527↑, 241↓)
Communism, though recently associated with corrupt totalitarian states such as [China] and The [Soviet Union] is one of the natural states of human existance, the idea of living in a self-sustaining group that cares for its members, like they did in the [Paleolithic] (Old Stone Age), which is increasingly hard in the modern world. Most families live in A SORT of communism, as parents USUALLY don't make the kids work for what they eat. Many societies, such as the [Shakers] in [America], the [Incas] in [Peru], the [Essines] in [Israel], and many [Early Christian] groups, have practiced forms of communism. But Communism with [Das Kapital] C didn't come about until the mid [1800s] when Karl [Marx] wrote the [Communist Manifesto], which stated that Society was always going through transitions (the last two being [Feudalism], and [Capitalism]), and that now was the time for a transition into a [Socialist] economy, which would lead to a classless society, which he called "Communism". Marx recognised the effectiveness of Capitalism, but saw that it was only another step in this chain. One of the most contraversial points about [Modern Communism] is that it is vocally [Athiest], as Marx had said "[Religion] is the [Opium] of The People." This is because Marx's father was forced to convert from [Judaism] to [Christianity] in order to get a job in a largely [anti-semitic] country. Because of this, the young Marx decided that religion was fleeting, and was a tool of the opressor to bind the people. Despite this, many religious-based communistic societies have existed. In the early 1900s, in [Russia], long after marx's death, the [Tsar] [Alexander II] had declared war on [Japan]. Russia, after a devistating defeat in the [Russo-Japanese War], and heavy losses in [World War I], the people were ready for a new government. Many looked to [Marxism]. These were lead by intellectuals such as Vladamir Ulyanov "[Lenin]", and Leon [Trotsky]. They called themselves the [Bolsheviks], and pelieved that the [Proletariat], The workers, must triumph in an armed [revolution]. In 1917, the Tsar was deposed, and followed by a capitalistic [Provisional Government]. This didn't cut it for the [Bolsheviks], and the Bolsheviks soon gained control of Russia. At first, the new [Soviet Union] seemed like a genuine [Marxist] state, but soon an upstart named Josef "[Stalin]" "The Man of Steel", began his deadly regime, which effectively ended the idea of a just Communist state. the same thing was played out all over the world in places like [China], and [Cuba]. Corrupt dictators hijacked Communistic ideals and used them for their own personal good. So thus the great notions of Communism will forever be tainted by the terror of corrupt dictators.

9. (communism) (208↑, 166↓)
Conceptualized system of human social organization based on the gradual eradication of economic classes through the ages. Because everyone would belong to the same class, it is believed that economic resources and power would as well be equally dispersed throughout society. So called experiments in communism have been nothing more than mere popular uprisings, replacing the current monopolists on economic resources and political power with a new class of social elite.

Stinks like Communism.

10. (Communism) (279↑, 238↓)
An economic systen the claims to support workers, yet oddly enough all the workers seem to get shot or starve under the system. Usually advocated by people who don't actually live in Communist countries and have never taken an economic class before. Despite the fact that there are communist countries in the world, they don't bother moving to one.

He was shot because he didn't let the communists "redstribute" his land so they could let the people "share" it.

11. (communism) (84↑, 57↓)
A political system invented by Karl Marx which holds no basis in reality. Marx theorized that a so-called worker's revolution would occur, a socialist government would take place, and the eventual dissolution of the state and property would occur. The system notably failed in almost every country in which it was implemented, save for a few that learned to ignore communist economics altogether (China). Apologists of the theory commonly argue that, if implemented correctly and man's nature were to be reformed, communism would be the ideal political philosophy; the ultimate utopia. That notion is simply wrong. A simple logical analysis: 1. If everyone were equal, there would be no motivation for elevating oneself in society. 2. Motivation to better oneself has been the main source of innovation throughout history. 3. If everyone were equal, innovation would be at a minimum. 4. If innovation would be at a minimum, technological and scholastic advancement would not occur. 5. If advancement would not occur, we'd be stuck in the past for elongated periods of time. So no, political ignoramuses. True communism would be terrible, just like "distorted" communism. Let's leave it to the history books.

Some random hippie: WOW Communism in its true form would be great, screw capitalism\! Someone who's educated: No. Not really.

12. (communism) (73↑, 50↓)
A system of government that favors mediocrity, and destroys innovation. Advocated by the extreme zealot liberals who get it into their heads that being wealthy is a "bad" thing. Everyone does a half-assed job in everything they do (if they work at all) because there is NO incentive to do it well or compete with anyone else. The idea of an enlighted man doing it for the betterment of society is a pipe dream. No one is that big of a tool.

Communism - A friend of mine roomed with a communist and he mooched food, art supplies, and used his stuff without asking. This commi's greatest aspiration is life was to become homeless, because "it's better than having to sell your labor."

13. (Communism) (63↑, 51↓)
A form of government that sounds fair (like sharing your leftover sandwich with some bum on the street) but often is just hijacked by a small group of elites who promise that the poor lazy types will get to take the property and wealth of the enterprising rich types. In the end history records them as jagoffs: Stalin, Castro, Kim Il Sung, Mao Tse Tug, Ho Chi Minh were all "Communists" that in real life were probably among the richest people on earth... now how could that possibly happen in a "Communist" country?

Communism makes people feel compassion for their fellow man but there has yet to be a TRUE Communist state even attempted. Though to be honest if I were in a TRUE Communist state I sure wouldn't work very hard, cause really, why should I? I'm owed stuff by my Communist government. Gimme\!

14. (communism) (25↑, 16↓)
A form of society without government, social classes and money. The first part of that sentence is why The Soviet Union, China, Cuba, Vietnam etc... have never been communist countries. This is not to say that somehow these countries did something wrong when following Karl Marx's theory. Marxism is fatally flawed as it requires a government to gain power and then assumes that as time goes on the leaders in charge of the government will loosen the power that the government holds until it is finally free from government. It is absurd to think that the best way to destroy government is to make one, and a huge one at that. So this is where you will make the distinction between Communism and communism. Capital C Communism is the most widely know version of the word. Communism is used when discussing Communist Parties, and state Capitalist countries like Cuba, China and the Soviet Union. Lower case c communism however is used when discussing a society without government, classes and money. Lower case c communism is also used by the libertarian sections of communist theory that advocate progressing to a communist society without creating a state that will choke all of the freedom out of the people it governs. After understanding that you can understand that communism and Anarchism are at times the exact same thing. Most people would be shocked to find this out because most people think of state government when thinking of communism. As has been stated communism is a form of society without government, classes and money. What has been seen in the Soviet Union was an attempt at using Marx's theory on how to get to communism. Anarchism has many different strands of thought but at it's base it is a form of society without government and most hierarchical social structures(such as classes, bosses, governors, presidents, masters, slave drivers etc..). The difference is that communism is a type of society without money where as not all anarchist theories are without money.

For an example of communism/anarchism working on a large scale research The Spanish Civil War 1936-1939. George Orwell's personal experiences participating in the war(on the side of communism and against Communism and Capitalism) are written in his book "Homage to Catalonia".

16. (Communism) (21↑, 14↓)
A socio-political system that, in theory, is a FLAWED IDEA, yet when put into action, becomes a COMPLETELY SELF-DESTRUCTIVE NIGHTMARE. Anyone who claims that Marx was a genius or that communism will work if it is not explicitly 'Stalinist' is not a clear-headed person and probably shouldn't be trusted. An accurate summary of Communism, in a nutshell, is John Lennon's "Imagine". Everybody lives in harmony, blowing kisses and skipping hand-in-hand under the rainbow without a care in the world. But Communism kills all incentive to create one's own success, because in the end everybody works for whatever the Government deems to be "in the nation's best interest". Why would someone create a product that might otherwise yield great profit if they don't stand to get filthy rich off of it? Answer: they wouldn't. That's the fatal flaw. No profit incentive = no entrepreneurship = no trade = no money = a broke citizenry = a broke government = an economic collapse and a rude awakening. If u disagree, just shut up because you're wrong anyway.

With Communism: "I'm gonna start a company that makes flashlights. Question: "why?" Response: "uhhh good question. nevermind". With Capitalism: "I'm gonna start a company that makes flashlights. Question: "why?" Response: "Because that's what people need right now and they will buy it if they think its a good product. I'll get really really rich and then ill buy a new house, which will cost lots of money to pay for and lots of workers to build. And the workers will build it because they get that money, which they will use to pursue their own interests in life".

A system of collectivist social order based on the idea that the individual is an expendable commodity of society, the State, or a fictitious "greater good" or "greater whole." Absolute order with no chaos, variation, or freedom. Equal to or worse than fascism. Philosophy that contradicts nature yet claims to be defending the environment. Prevalent use of scapegoating, coercion, secret police, taxation, and expropriation. Snivelling sycophants of this philosophy will use pro-worker rhetoric to gain the trust of the working class. Sameness and equality are not the same thing.

Kim Jong Il's police state proves that communism is all about absolute order.

1) A totalitarian form of government in which the People form a union where there is no individualism or self-advancement in classes, as there are no classes. Society advances and benefits as a whole. "Invented" by humans back in the Stone Age, but made more sophisticated by Karl Marx around the time of the 1848 Revolutions in Europe. 2) A Revolutionary ideal often represented by the notorious Cuban Revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara on t-shirts. The people who wear these shirts often have no idea what Communism is really about, have never read a single book about it, and just want to be nonconformist by wearing the said shirt or claiming to be under such a revolutionary ideal. Notes: No powerful country has ever respected Communism. Communism is often used as the fuel for a Revolution, but is never used the the form of government once the Revolution has taken place. Communism does not support there being no government, quite the opposite. It supports a Totalitarian form of rule. Anarchy is the ideal of no government and that the wellbeing of the People is based entirely on their conscience.

A system that, while looking fine on paper, has yet to be implemented correctly. The base ideology is that all industry and property is controlled by the state, which in turn provides most things to the people. Historically communist states were/are controlled by a dictator like Joseph Stalin or Kim Jong-il, who attempts to generate a [cult of personality] and downplay the negative traits of their state. Although calling themselves Marxist-Leninist, many of these states are degenerated totalitarian dictatorships, where the common people are subject to mass surveillance and everything is heavily censored. Currently the only communist states left are China, Cuba, North Korea, Laos, and Vietnam.

Communism is a collectivist Utilitarian socio-economic political philosophy. Authoritarian in nature, Communism seeks to abolish private property, social classes, racism, religion, and nationalism. Communist states establish a bureacratic command economy in which the means of production are owned and operated by the state. Thus the main responsibility of the Communist state is to allocate and redistribute resources and products so as to create a society in which all resources are distributed evenly throughout the populous.

The Soviet Union practiced an offshoot of Marxism that can be referred to as Authoritarian Communism.

Satan's rule and form of law. Passed by Satan himself under the guise of Karl Marx on February 21st, 1848. The main root cause of all homelessness, hunger, destruction of families, slavery, and the eventual collapse of entire nations, as it allready did to the Soviet Union.

Communism is the number 1 worst form of law and government ever seen in world history.

32. (Communism) (21↑, 22↓)
System of government where everyone is equal and all private property is abolished and given to the government. Sounds like a good idea, but it kinda fails when you notice that a doctor is getting paid the same wage as a janitor and you just surrendered all of your power and property to the government, who can do whatever the hell they want with it.

It's amazing that; despite the fact that all attempts at Communism have resulted in failure and often the slaughter of millions of innocent people, people still support its crackpot ideology. Equality is not the same as fairness.

33. (Communism) (17↑, 18↓)
communism is a form of government that supposedly eliminates all social and monetary inequality. unfortunetly what many people do not realize is that all private property is no longer yours and everything must be shared. it is not, as many proclaim, a good idea for this reason alone. anyone who believes that everyone should have access to your house, car, food, etc. truly despises you as an individual and cares not for your well being, only theirs. Communism is NOT altruistic or peacable. millions died in Russia because the former business owners and industrialists were moved to the bottom of the food chain, and the peasants rose up to take their place on the social ladder. there was no equality but a social flip-flop that did nothing but prove that communism is nothing but an excuse for moochers.

with the fall of capitalism and rise of communism, there was much less than there was before for there was none with any expertise to control the industries, etc.

34. (communism) (17↑, 19↓)
First of all, Communism is an idea that never actually worked in any country. There are certain ideas of Communism. It promotes equality and in theory turns out to be a classless society. To put it simply, in Communism- you contribute what you are able to do, and you get paid the same amount of money as everyone else. What that means is, if Im able to work 7 hours, and my friend Johnny is able to work only 3 hours, we would both earn the same amount of money, say 100 dollars. In theory, people would be happy and okay with the idea that the guy in a cubical next to them in an office works half as much (because that's all they are able to work), but gets paid the same as a guy who works twice as much as him. In an ideal Communism, there is no set line of productivity. Communism depends entirely on the people. In theory, people would honestly work as much as they are capable of working. Some can work more, and some can work less. But in theory, everybody would be honest with themselves and work as hard as they can, without slacking off. When Russia gave Communism a shot, it failed miserably. People understood that since there was no line of minimal productivity, and since there was the idea of "do what you can, get what everybody else gets", people simply said that they were only capable of working two hours, and still got a set payment of money. So in reality, people werent doing shit, producing very little, and the government still payed them. However, the govenment COULD NOT suddenly set a line of minimal productivity, as it would go against the idea of people working as much as they are honestly capable of working. As it turned out, people saw that they would still get payed a set amount of money no matter how much they worked, so they simply did as little as possible. What Russia did do, however, was tell the people to work for longer. Russia told the people that they should work longer, as they couldnt set up a line of productivity. So, the little work that people did over four hours was now divided over 7 hours. So per hour, people were doing very little. The theory of Communism is not meant for people. We have our own nature. Of, out of nowhere Communsm did work with humans, it would completely change our nature, and therefore change everything about humans and human history. The bottum line is that COMMUNISM DOESNT WORK WITH PEOPLE. Communism always turns into a dictatorship-like country. However, there is a form of Communism in the lives of ants and termites. They do what they are able to do, work hard, and share the food with the whole colony. Is this really exactly "ideal Communism"? Not exactly, but it is something. You have to remember that ants and termites have this sort of nature and are born into this. Humans are not meant to live in Communism. It doesnt work.

In my opinion, Fidel Castro had the least catastrophical form of Communism. He was able to hold his country together all this time. Are all the people happy? No. Fidel is only able to hold his shit together because he has the help of the military, and this would not be present under ideal Communism. This is just one example of what Communism turns into.

36. (communism) (22↑, 25↓)
Communism is an idea that Marx and Engles came up with. In theory, its a direct, true democracy. But when it is applied to human life, it doesnt work. The main idea in communism is-- "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs". What that means is, every citizen works however much they can honestly work, and they get paid according to how much money they need in order to live. This means that the system works on honesty- the govenrment expects you to be honest on how much you can really work, and they pay you according to how much money you need. This concept doesnt work. it doersnt work because there is no motivation for the people to work. In communism, if you could honestly work your ass off, and you do work your ass off, you will still get paid the same salary as if you didnt work your ass off. So this means that you can work really hard, or work very little, and still get paid the same salary. So people basically have no motivation to work hard. When people work hard, the country produces money. When people do nothing, the country suffers financially. On the contrary, in a capitalist society, the harder you work- the more you get paid. If you work very hard at a sophisticated job, you earn alot of money. Whereas if you work a crappy job that requires very little work, you will not earn so much money. So this is where the motivation comes from. In capitalism, the harder you work- the more you get paid. And in communism, nomatter how hard you work, you will always get paid according to your needs, but the government expects you to be honest in how hard you work. What happens to communism, is that the country does not work, does not produce, and eventually collapses from not having enough money to support itself. The former Soviet Union was probably the most obvious example of a country of failed communism. The people were not paid according to their needs- everyone was paid less than the amount of money needed to live a very minimal life. And the government used force and intimidation to force the people to work hard, or else... But there are elements of communism in nature, and even in some Native American tribes, centuries ago. The Native Americans lived in a common community, where they saw their villages of a place that belonged to everyone, and worked for the good of the community, and not for the good of individual families like in capitalism. Ants and termites live in colonies where every one works and works and works, and the colony shares everything, for the good of the colony, and not for the good of each individual ant or termite. However, this case is not to be compared to human communism, since termites and ants are instinctively born into workers in the oclony, and so that is basically their nature. So it would be unfair to compare this case to humans. Communism is a very beautiful idea. And if it could work, the entire world would have been totally communist a long time ago. But communism doesnt work. Overall, communism fails because of a lack of motivation, and having the desire to work for the benifit of your own person and your own family, rather than for the benifit of the entire community. And now, after people have realised what communism turns out to be, I doubt any more countries will willfully try to establish communism by choice.

Communism is a beautiful idea, but it quickly turns into a dictatorship. Communism eventually collapses from financial trouble. After the Proletariat throw over the Bourgiuase, a new Bourgiuase class eventually forms that is really a class of the government, and the country then changes from an attempt at communism to pretty much a dictatorship. The idea of Communism is of a direct democracy, like that of ancient Greece. The capitalist world has indirect democracy- a representative democracy. And true communism is meant to be an honest, classless society of common ownership and prosperity. But all that doesnt happen, simply because humans are not meant to live a communist life. This has been proven time and time again.

An ideological economic/governmental/philosophical system. The 1950-1990 scapegoat for american conflict. A system of government which takes form each according to his ability and gives each according to his need. Contary to common belief: There has never been a communist nation. Socialism isn't communism because it doesn't stress revolution, rather communist'esque reforms. The term soviet best describes most of the previous 'communist' nations, as soviet is a progressional communist state (becoming communist) Communism ISN'T like facism. They are political opposites. Facists support the upper-class and privitisation. Communism has NOTHING to do with dictators, there have been many democratic systems that have been communist (e.g. Chille) The comunist nations haven't collapsed because they are essentially flawed, they have collapsed because they have been met with massive opposition from the upper class (Who controls the capitalist nations) and basically killed. Economically communism (a planned/command economy) can be very powerful, any comparison however is poor because we don't have a communist world with a few capitalist nations to compare our's to. Generally dismissed on the grounds of "Good in theory, bad in practice" This statement is a conclusion, not an argumnet guys. By definition something that is 'good in theory' is 'good in practice' or it is in fact 'bad in theory'

39. (communism) (13↑, 17↓)
A socialist theory advocated by Karl Marx in which the proletariat (working class) tried to attain rights, and fair wages. By abolishing bourgeois (middle class business owners) property the proletariat hoped for equality.

During the Industrial Revolution the proletariat (lower class) were forced to switch from the work they were used to doing, agriculture and farming, to working in factories for the bourgeois (middle class busines owners). They worked sometimes 16-18 hour days and didn't even get paid enough to live. (Which is why from 8 years old and up children were dropping out of school to work full time in the hopes their family wouldn't starve that day. Although kids often got paid 1/10 of what an adult did.) As machines were getting easier to use more people had the skills necessary (none...) to work. Because of this the number of proletariat continued to increase and so the laws made for/by the bourgeois didn't apply to the lower class which was by far, the majority. Karl Marx had a theory and this theory was communism. Marx belief was that by abolishing bourgeois property it would level out the playing field so the proletariat had the chance to prosper, and be functioning members of society.

A mid-19th century fairy-tale by author Karl Marx that builds on the earlier fairy-tale of Socialism, and describes a society in which industries are motivated as effectively by the mystical concept entitled the "public good" as they are in the real world by the evolutionary principle of personal gain with no oversight to define the "public good" and no need for merits or reprimands. 2. An extreme form of collectivism in which everything is produced and distributed collectively and no attention is given to the need to decide what should be produced and in what quantities in any effective way, much less to the need to motivate anyone to actually produce it.

None. Communism does not exist. It is impossible. There are no historical examples. "Communist" countries like the USSR and China operate a system of brutal totalitarian Socialism, and openly admit that they "operate a Socialist system that will according to them eventually evolve into Communism". Communes and co-operatives that work within larger systems are NOT examples - these are private companies that are owned by their employees. They have a larger market to respond to in order to know what to produce, are profit-based, and have a system for firing free-loaders.

41. (communism) (44↑, 49↓)
Utopian ideals of a society where true wealth -the [means of production]- belong to the public, and the products' quality advances not by the need in market, but by sheer willpower to make a better world. Thus utopian.

Russia during Stalin's reign is a perfect example of actually existing communism. It had nothing to do with theoretical communism which is based on a notional society.

42. (communism) (79↑, 84↓)
A utopian idea for common wealth which relies on an idealized society. In practice it succumbs to corruption and promotes oligarchy. When it fails, capitalism inevitably takes over providing a more practical and efficient allocation of resources.

Communism =\> Capitalism

43. (communism) (34↑, 40↓)
An idealistic way of life based on the concept that everyone is equal. It probably was first used in early Christian communities, and was popularized by many famous thinkers, like Marx. Because of inherent "flaws" of human nature, communism remains an impossible utopian standard to this day. It is sometimes used incorrectly to classify certain countries that are simply dictatorial or socialist, not communist.

I would rather live in a capitalist country than in a communist one.

44. (communism) (41↑, 47↓)
A politcial theory where every person in a society is equal, given all life needs (food, shelter, ect.) equally, and where there is no central governing body or group opf people (hard to have everyone be equal with a few leaders telling the masses what to do). In theory, the most utopian and 'perfect' of the 3 major social forms. In practice, can never effectivly happen in practice mainly because tghe average human being needs and desires asome sort of governing structure, whether it be very strict (See [facisim] ) or very loosly (See [anarchist]) applied. This structure tend to fall into a more [Socialist] social order when applied in the real world. Eventhough the orgionators fo this social order said this structure would be best suited for the large Capitolistic nations of their era (England, USA, ect.), the most noted use of this system was inside the Former Soviet Union and the Peoples Repulic of China. The Soviet system, though lasting over 7 decades, ended with the country ditching the One Party system for a more Democratic based model after the country practically became bankrupt in 1989. China has grown more Socialist since it's conversion to the Commuinst structure in 1947, mainly do to their laxing, however small, of certain 'communist' ideals for more democratic princliples (such as individualism and ownership of property).

You Commie Bitch\!

45. (communism) (5↑, 12↓)
An ideology based essentially on the idea expounded by [Karl Marx], that in an ideal society everyone would receive what they needed and would produce according to their capacity. From this idea was elaborated a [doctrine] whereby a [Socialist] state would be established that would in time subsume the [economic] structure of [society] into itself. At this point the State itself would wither and the new ideal Communist society would emerge. It's surely a beautiful idea on paper, and may even work with small [tribal] bands ... but just try to apply it to a society made of millions of us [naked apes] and see what happens. Marx incidentally suggested that [agrarian] societies would be more likely to develop in time along such lines; the adoption of Communist doctrine by industrial societies like [Lenin]ist-[Stalin]ist [Russia] may arguably be in itself a perversion of Marx's idea.

Capitalism is the exploitation of man by man. Communism is the exact reverse. - John Gardner Any man who is not a Communist at the age of twenty is a fool. Any man who is still a Communist at the age of thirty is an even bigger fool. - [George Bernard Shaw]. Communism: right idea, wrong species. - Jermaine Evans The Catholic and the Communist are alike in assuming that an opponent cannot be both intelligent and sincere. - [George Orwell]. A Communist is like a crocodile - when it opens its mouth you cannot tell whether it is trying to smile or preparing to eat you up. - [Winston Churchill]

46. (Communism) (11↑, 18↓)
Communism is a form of governmant based on socialist principles. Karl Marx and his associate created the economic system of socialism in which wealth would be redistributed. It was Lenin and Stalin who adapted socialism into the goverment. The motto, more or less, of Communism is "Each gives according to his talents and recieves according to his needs." Until now there has not been a truly communist society, partly because the founders have been power-hungry and in part because humanity has, on the whole, not yet reached a socially acceptable level.

Communism is the ideal social existance. Once achieved, humanity will be fre from the tyranny of currency and work in order to ensure growth, prosperity and future survival.

47. (communism) (33↑, 40↓)
An economic system based on the principal that no matter where you work or what your working for, you are still making the same amount of money as everyone else. Probably the most theoretical economic system, but always falls apart when put into practice. This is because the leaders are corrupt, militaristic dictators.

Soviet Union, North Korea, South Vietnam, China... All failed Communist states.

Author: Chris, the vizier of America's inevitable doom. http://communism.urbanup.com/232851
48. (Communism) (34↑, 42↓)
An Idealistic system of [government]. Started with Karl Marx (author of The Communist Manifesto), and has never been acheived by any country in its idealized form. The basic principles stand that because in [capitalism] the owner (bourgoise) always [pwn]s the working class (proletarians). Marx's solution was to eliminate all class, have everyone equal, and eliminate money, government, and social systems. Although utopian when carried out correctly, the idealogy has been consistently defeated by the natural human greed, [hax0rs], and the need for being the best. Because Humans are naturally greedy, and by evolutionary stand points always strive to acheive maximum [1337ness], the theory of Communism developed by Marx is practically implausible and ideal.

Bob: Although capitalism is a good idea, it breeds two seperate classes, and tends to cause poverty. Jim: Yeah, but communism is impossible for humans to use, so we are basically screwed.

49. (communism) (18↑, 26↓)
An economic system that works in theory but not in the real world.

communism would be good for society if all people weren't naturally selfish.

50. (communism) (33↑, 41↓)
A theoretical economic state where all wealth is divided between the population.

Communism \> Capitalism

51. (Communism) (22↑, 31↓)
True communism is a utopian socity (perfect society),based on Carle Marx philosaphys (Marxism). True communism only works in small isolated situations, and never lasts very long due to the human nature of greed. In a true communist state no one person would have more of anything than another, everything would be shared. A prime example of this is the hippie communes of the 1960's. But true communism was tested in the commune form by transcendentalists such as Ralph Waldo Emmerson, and Henry David Therou in the Transcendentalist Period in American literature (around the same time as the Romanticism Period) 1820-1860 aproximatly. True Communism should not be confused with Socialism. Socialism is what the United States government wanted (wants) to rid the world of. A totalitarian state.

Those hippies have a great commune. They are true Marxists. Socialism isn't communism.

52. (communism) (48↑, 57↓)
A form of socialism; it is the final phase of revolutionary change in an industrialized country, where workers rebel and inevitably install a socialist government. Many countries have undertaken the doctrine of Karl Marx's theory of communism, but those countries took long enough to realize that communism just simply doesn't work. Communism is actually not very people-based, and one important thing to mention is that communist nations are run by dictators and only dictators. America and communism don't mix because America's founding principles are based on individual freedom, privacy, and other non-intrusive elements that socialism contrasts. And communist nations have a history of being run via civil oppression.

"Communism works on paper.....that's it." -me "In Soviet Russia, people had to save their money just to buy a toaster. Sorry for fooling you into thinking this would be a Yakov Smirnoff joke with the first three words." -me

53. (communism) (20↑, 29↓)
An idea that worked out on paper, but failed miserably in practice. It actually might've worked quite well if Joseph Stalin didn't turn himself into an all-controlling despot. Also a rarely understood economical system, partly because of capitalist governments during the Cold War telling people that it's wrong, and partly 'cos most people can't stand reading ten words of Marx's writing.

Communism in its essence consists of a classless society with an equalised economy. And no, I'm not defending or supporting it, I'm just posting my observations of it.

54. (communism) (23↑, 32↓)
An idea that is perfect in theory, but is not allowed by human nature.
55. (communism) (27↑, 36↓)
a form of government which is beautiful on paper but for some reason never works in real life
56. (communism) (34↑, 43↓)
Something that works on paper, but real life corrupts.
57. (communism) (17↑, 27↓)
A system of government that eliminates privately owned property and the caste system; making everyone equal. A great idea on paper, but unfortunately, never works in the real world b/c someone gets power hungry. Mostly hated by Americans who are grown up from birth being told that Communists are evil; because their capitalist government wants to remain in control. Unfortunately, there has never been a true working communism that follows it's ideal; someone always gets power hungry and turns it from a communism into something of a dictatorship.

1.) There has never been a true working communism. 2.) Most people who hate communism are from America, who are grown on the prospect of it being evil.

58. (communism) (19↑, 29↓)
A form of government in which class divisions, possessions, and privately owned property are eliminated. Essentially, everybody is considered equal and issues such as class divisions and poverty are solved. Although the ideal of communism is an excellent idea, it does not work. Wealth is divided up amongst the people, meaning everybody ends up being poor. In addition, communist governments are often run by corrupt politicians such as Stalin, making a small group of people very rich and everybody else poor. In short, EVERYBODY ENDS UP BEING EQUAL, but in most cases this is EQUALLY POOR AND MISERABLE, and sometimes, people end up being MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS, which does not make sense.

Setting up Communism seemed like a good idea at the time, but a hangover was soon to follow.

59. (communism) (38↑, 48↓)
"Mordern communism" can be said to be defined by Stalinist Russia, being a despotic state led by a firm, metal grip similar to that of Tsarism. This variation is widely accepted by the western leaders, such as Harry Truman, who viewed communism exactly as such an "evil" ideology.

Down with communism\!

60. (Communism) (19↑, 29↓)
In theory, the best government that can exist. In actuality, a big freaking screw up.

Communism is like trying to send a flare to warn people about a fire: it seemed like a good idea at the time, but it just made things worse.

67. (Communism) (67↑, 80↓)
A mythical form of government orignially dreamed up by Marx and Engles in their book "The communist Manifesto". Under communism everyone would be forced to be equal to give everyone equal amounts of everything, no individuality would be experienced and if you excel in any way you will be handicapped for the good of all. There is no form of government or currency, desire to excel and greed is abolished by magic, all people happily coexist with no desire to do so. Under communism the government does not exist and is expected to give out all needs equally.

A form of government, which is based on equality, destroyed by greed and fear.

69. (communism) (53↑, 66↓)
A group of government made up by damn fools who think they should own everything.
70. (communism) (14↑, 28↓)
In theory this is perfect, as evryone is equally treated, however it falls to pieces when people get greedy. For example a doctor and a binman might get payed the exact same amount of money; just like everyone else. But, the doctor might think "Wait a minute i save lives, i deserve more money than you." On the other hand, if there was no binman, who would take the rubbish out? There is no homelessness in communism, unlike democrat, everyone is given the same flat, same car, no one is given special treatment in any way.

This theory is perfect, flawless, but them greedy people go and spoil it all the time. Bastards.

71. (communism) (31↑, 45↓)
Utopia
72. (communism) (42↑, 57↓)
A system of government that is, for all intents and purposes, is fascism in disguise. Like fascists, Communist governments are marked by centralization of authority under a dictator (Joseph Stalin and Kim Jong Il), suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship (Joseph Stalin took over countries and removed leaders he deemed "disloyal"), and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism (No racism, but there sure is nationalism). The equality thing for all is one of the biggest coverups in history.

Without Communism, Joseph Stalin wouldn't have killed 10 million people, nuclear weapons wouldn't be nearly as advanced or dangerous (cold war), no Berlin Wall, no Vietnam or Korean wars, no North Koreans working in factories for $3 a month, etc.

73. (communism) (34↑, 49↓)
The situation where, the worst possible scenario that could happen, does. Usually a situation that one hasn't thought of.

76. (Communism) (2↑, 18↓)
A political and economic system that rejects the concept of personal ownership of property in favour of having all the wealth in the government's hands, and supplying necessary, and possibly luxury, goods to the population according to the individual's, and the mass's, needs. This system is inefficient on a larger scale because of greediness and sloth, as in, many people taking more than they need and giving less than they can, although in a Kibbutz, or commune, this system is fairly efficient when coupled with some lenience regarding personal property (As in, allowing the capitalist based system of currency, but still keeping the economy run exclusively by the Kibbutz or commune management).

"To each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs" \communism Exert from the Communist Manifesto. The communist party garners the working class vote through promises of equality. Communism is the economic antonym of capitalism.

77. (communism) (19↑, 35↓)
Communism is what the whole world should do, but doesn't. Communism works in philosophy but in real life, It wouldn't. Communism is another way of saying 'when cows fly' because it couldn't. Put them all together and you get what you started with in the first place. Peace out\! ;)

communism is an idea or belief that creates everyone equal. everyone gets paid the same, everyone works the same, everyone is no diffrent from the rest. even though communism is the belief that everyone is equal, there is usually a government or leader in charge of it to keep order. communism is good because in a perfect world it would obolish greed, hunger, addiction(whatever its form), and many more things. but it is bad because the temptation for the leader to become greedy is very high. so communism can easily turn into a dictator ship, which isnt nesessarily bad. but the tempetional to become even more greedy is much higher. in a perfect world communsim would be succesful, but sadly we dont live in a perfect world

russia/germany was a communist country, but soon dictators took over them and started attacking other countries.

A well-intended theory of social organisation based on a centalized economy and complete social equality. In practice it proves to be just as given to totalitarianism as [capitalism] and [fascism] because it enshrines hierarchy rather than destroying it. Alternatives: see [anarchism].

Former Soviet Union. Was quasi-Communist for 70 years until people got fed up. Now it's 'democratic' and 'capitalist' because Western corporations got a chance to buy every industry of value in the post-1989 economic vaccuum. A political-economic system in which the government owns all businesses, all wealth is divided among the citizens, and the citizens receive free education and health care. Communism also allows no religion and forces its atheist propaganda among its citizens. Communism would be a wonderful system of government if the Soviet political leaders weren't a bunch of asses who only cared about themselves.

Communism: You and everyone in your neighborhood have two cows. The cows are sent to the neighborhood barn where they are all taken care of equally, and everybody shares the milk. Soviet Communism: You have two cows. You take care of the cows and the government takes the milk.

An idea that "punks" who are trying to sound hardcore will wholeheartedly endorse without knowing a fucking thing about it. It was started by Karl Marx, and quickly taken up by rebells across the globe. It eventually came to power under [Vladimir Lenin] and [Leo Trotsky]. It soon was turned into a synonym for dictatorship by Stalin and Mao. Eventually, comunist governments either collapsed, like russia, modified, like China and Vietnam and Cuba, or became little rogue nations despised by the rest of the world like North Korea. The one stable government remotely resembling comunism is Venezuela. The truth is, communism is a bad idea, and if you learned about it, you would see that it is almost impossible

Virtually all communism-lead nations have descended into turmoil Capitalism is flawed, but is better
